Leave, Competitions and Interviews

I'm gonna be participating in a nation-wide Malay blogging competition. Organised by the Ministry of Education.

The assessment period is from 1st July to 21 July 2006.

So from now till I run out of steam, I will be concentrating a bit more energy into blogging, but not necessarily here.

So, wish me luck.

So from now until 15 July, I also happen to be on leave so I have some time in my hands for more social commentaries in Malay regarding the language and culture.

Work tomorrow.

Bah.

I love you, Su. See you on Thursday.

Ubin Again

It was a wet Sunday, but there was no separating Su and I from Ubin.

As always, we were late again and a 845 appointment turned into a 11am meeting. We arrived at Changi Point at about 1145, and continued to deliberate on whether Ubin should be it, or the Changi boardwalk would better.

The nice shady weather, and the call of the island was too much to ignore, and so Ubin it was.

When Su get's bored, she takes pictures!

Based on yesterday's and past experience, here's a short list of things which you MUST have before you get going.

1) Cash - $10 per person at least if you intend to rent a bike.
2) Water
3) Snacks

And if you want to laze at the beach, you would also want to bring a groundsheet. Shades and hats are required, but not essential.

The bumboat itself is $2 one-way. So unless you intend to swim back to mainland, I suggest you set aside $2 of strictly unspendable money before you leave for the island. Rental of mountain bikes is about $5 per day, which is pretty worth it, as the bikes are in a similarly questionable condition as that you find at East Coast.

So that's that.

It was after-showers when we got there, so those pesky mosquitoes were really active. Only half hour of cycling, and Su already had 18 different mozzie bites on both her thighs alone. (In comparison, I had only 2.) So especially for those who are not seasoned to ravenous insects, I suggest covering up your thighs entirely, so that those mozzies can't get in contact with your skin. Tights do the job splendidly.

Us: On the way to Mamam, admidst the Mozzies

So Mamam beach is the first stop. It's a popular first stop for many cyclists on the island, as it is the easiest beach to get to. It is also a popular camp site, so the sand is a little dirty. But it is a great place to just lay out the mat and bask in the sun.

There are instances when it was just too hot to cycle, or I was too lazy to move and I ended up falling asleep on the sand for an hour or so. But because the weather yesterday was so perfect, the stop was only for about an hour, just about enough time for some sweet nothings, rehydration and a snack.

The Legend of the Smiling Princess of Mamam is true...

On mosquito bites, Axe Oil is quite effective. Not only does it reduce the swelling, the strong scent also drives away future mozzies, and prevents further pillage.

Taking the dirt trail out of Mamam is a fairly challenging route for novice riders. The rather gradual terrain makes it easy, yet the twisty camber and hidden roots make make the route rather slippery in after a downpour. I remember having to go through the same route several times with Dasuki, cos he really enjoyed dirtbiking. *LOL*

Mud awaits...

Coming out of that Mamam trail near the Murai Hut, there's another adjacent trail which leads you to about 80% the way to Noordin Beach. That one is more challenging, especially when wet. This trail is generally muddy and poses a greater challenge then the one from Mamam. Although the terrain is still quite gradual, the camber is steeper, and cyclists are split between getting grazed by the vegetation and running aground from mud pits.

Us: Somewhere in the trail...

Comparing distances, it is nearer to get to Mamam from the train compared to taking the long winding road, and it is precisely because of that, people like me get ourselves muddy, and run the risk of a real mudbath cycling through the trail.
1st it was me who almost ate mud. Then it was Su, who also unfortunately got her little twinky toes banged up quite badly in an accident.

I'm getting bored.

So anyway, Ubin has been and will continue to be a some sort of a secret sanctuary for the both of us. It's a place we we can get away from it all and to enjoy hours of undivided attention together. It was a perfect day out for us, despite the mud, sweat and mozzies.

Thanks babe. I couldn't have done it without you.

Me: Not the smile, but the T-shirt.

Rumble. Ramble. Rummy. Rammy. Milk.

Don't ask why.

I'm hooked on porn. Darn. It's so easy to get, too easy to download. It's the most abundant content on the Internet. And even before eBay and Internet Banking, XXX websites are already making money off credit cards. And someone said that getting a girl to strip naked was difficult.

Now, such adulterous content is not strictly confined to specific websites (like www.freeporn.com or www.dancinghotbabes.com) , it also exists in dating websites like Adult Friend Finder and Just Date. And if you think that Friendster is squicky clean, just perform a search on any adjective or noun related to sex, and you're most likely to find a few, if not several 'profiles' on it.

So blow yourself away, or you can get someone else to do it for you.

This is also a good week for tucking in deep in bed, and burrying yourself under a pile of pillows. It's also a good week to sleep in, and ask someone to get you your breakfast in bed. It's a good week to just not get up to go to school, or work.

A good week indeed.

2 working days left. Then ORD.

Shiok.

I love you Su. Thanks for the wonderful dinner.

The Two Towers

It's a Sunday afternoon. Rather lazy one at that. Was on the MSN on and off... Kept being away from the ksyboard to tend to the two little lovable irritating brats I call brothers.

Yesterday, I got a very brief crash course on Lord of the Rings, and apparently there's one playing on Tv this evening. I think it's the TwinTowers (or is it Two Towers).

Well, it begins soon, and for the first time in a long, long time, I'm gonna catch a Fantasy movie. The last one I caught was The Neverending Story, and that was AGES ago.

Towers: The Two Towers in Lord of the Rings, and the Petonas Twin Towers in KL, Malaysia.

The Simpsons are on, so a little bit of American Humour before some fantasy.

I love you Su. Catch you after the movie.

Laughing Gas

Some people laugh with no sound.

Some people laugh with lots of sound.

Some people laugh and their eyes remain unchanged.

Some people laugh and their eyes disappear.

Some people laugh with clenched fists.

Some people laugh with clenched teeth.

Some people laugh till they pee.

Some people laugh when they pee.

But the funniest part of all, is when they laugh and their noses expand and contract at the same time.

It's a Friday.

Somehow, it's not the best day of the week. Especially when you're girlfriend is upset.

I love you Su, nonetheless.

I'm perfect, 'cos you love me. I'm imperfect, though I'm Ultraman.

Friday...

Yesterday was unofficially the last day at Cantonment. The official last day for me and the 2 other dudes from my humble office was on Thursday. Work kinda stopped two weeks ago, and for the past two weeks, I was wondering why I even go to work.

But nonetheless, no matter how you look at it, I'm now based at the former Police Academy, at Thomson Road. We haven't really thought of a name for it just yet, so it remains as 'Former Police Academy (PA).' Don't ask why. For all I know, the Force is really able to come up with tons and tons of acronyms, like SAR, COS, FIR, and COR, SOC and OCT, CP and SAC, ASP, DSP and CANOPE. *LOL* Okay, there's no such thing as a canope in the Force. But a can o' pee is really grouse to have lying around in the office.

So leaving Canton does at the same time leave behind a lot of memories inside that tiny cosy room I call an office. It's a little place where we share secrets. It's a little place where little bits of strange knowedge is transferred. It's a little place where some secrets are kept, and destroyed. It's a little place I return to after a hard night out dancing.

Some luxuries then cannot be enjoyed now. E-MSN is one of them. Cutting ourselves some slack is another. But most of all, the luxury of staying back late and chit chatting in the office will be lost. No more laughing like hooligans on the loose either.

At least I still have the other 2 parts of me, whom I will definitely miss when I ORD. But one thing is for sure, we'll all miss M. She's there when we need her, and she adds to the laughter and cock nonsense we have.

That aside, having dinner with Mdm J from the COR was something interesting that happened that Friday evening. The galant knights were an hour plus late, and for the first time, I took a 8-dollar taxi ride when it was only $3.10 on the meter. Booking fees can be such a pain.

So it was a dinner about chicken, Lucky Plaza, Wasabe, and the infamous CB Leaf (my friends in BMTC would know what that is... *LOL*). I was so full, I could hardly have anything more to eat. I think Mr Faizal tends to 'over order' the chicken. It happened once last week, and it happened again this week.

"Amek kau obat! S**r peh jantan~!"

So the three of us got stuffed beyond our limits last night. I wasn't too sure about Mr Nizam, though. He stopped sooner than I did, and was quietly enjoying his mango pudding at the end.

Dinner was also with the tallest 14-year old girl I've ever seen. She was only a finger or two shorter than me, and had feet bigger than mine! I wonder how she looks in a miniskirt. Well, she could do with more meat. Giving up half of the serving of noodles to the friendly giant next to you is definitely not the way to put on weight.

Well, interacting with them reminds me of my past. When the girls are in a dilemma between boys and school commitments, and handphone issues, sibling rivalry and the works. Some things don't change.

Nonetheless, it was a good Friday night. The only thing that I didn't have to do, was to be an exorcist. Thank God!

I love you, Su. Enjoy the camp.

Dear God, Give me the answers I seek. Give me the strength to continue loving and caring, in this world full of hatred, and discontentment.

Dear God, do give me the strength, to go another day, with all the challenges I face.

Dear God, give me the ability to be the best that I can be, for my family and friends.

Dear God, please ensure her safety, and the safety of those she loves, and those who love her.

Dear God, don't take away this gift of patience, and faith which you have bestowed upon me, as it helps me keeps my sanity in times like this. Don't take away the love that I have for the people I care for.

Dear God, beyond everything I ask for help to make sure that the people I care for remain as happy as can be, even though you need to shroud me in misery.

random-things to say .

Choosing to Love you,
Is the best decision I've made, so far.

Wanting you to be happy,
Is my only consideration now.

Leaving you all alone,
Was never an option.

To be thinking about you always,
Is not easy, especially in tough times.

Being CHOPE
Is incomplete without the REAL chickadee.
